Greetings my friends. It has been another busy week in our church. We had a great fellowship meal Wednesday night with a Bible Study that seemed to be enjoyed by all. A big thanks to the Keeters for helping the Hodges get the meal together. I have to brag on Ann. She made all the desserts. It is obvious why I look the way I do. Her chocolate sheath cake and homemade peach cobbler were out of this world. Our church is blessed with many good cooks and dessert makers.
We are all apprehensive about the impending weather. We will make a decision about Sunday’s worship service as soon as we can. We want everyone to be safe. I will plan on doing a Facebook live devotional at 10:30 a.m. if we are snowed/iced in. I have already made provisions at my house for some communion elements. I hope you will do the same and we will have communion together as well as a short devotional message. It kind of eerily feels like covid again. Hopefully it will be only this one Sunday.
I want to let you know a couple of things our church is doing to support some local missions. We bought some new tires for carts at the Food Pantry. Michael Cornelison will install those this week. In addition, we are buying some new skillets for the Senior Citizens Center. Both of these efforts go right along with our mission to help the hungry in our community and we are thrilled to be able to help them.
We have some sweet ladies that have become a part of our church. The Blackwells and Shauna’s mother, Frankie donated some blankets and other items to be distributed as a need arose. I took a blanket, along with some groceries, to a needy family today (Thursday). That is what Christianity is all about. Thank you ladies!
Very soon, we are going to revive the Alcoholic Anonymous program. This will be an important program for members in our community and their sobriety. We will also start a new Al-Anon group. We are blessed to have Nell Largent as part of our church and she is a world-renowned speaker in the Al-Anon group. The group is for any family member that has a person in their family that is an alcoholic. We will have more details later about these 12-step programs and what they can do to change people’s lives. We may be doing some work on our chapel to help facilitate these programs.
Sunday, February 1st is a huge day in our short church history. We paid off our mortgage on the building so we will celebrate that with a note-burning and then a barbeque meal for everyone. Come to worship and stay for a great celebration.
We have started a sermon series on the book of James. Last week’s lesson focused on the fact that we all as Christians will face trials and yet we are to find joy in those. The next lesson will be about temptations we have that lead to sin. Praise God we have a Savior who saves us from those sins. We will follow that with what true religion really is. Come join us as we study this rich book of practical learning.
