Hodgepodge March 12, 2026

By Pastor Everett Hodges

Is there a chance the wind will blow?  I got my squash planted only to see that the low Monday morning is below freezing.  Maybe they won’t have come up yet.  It was a sad ending to basketball season as our grandson got beat in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday night. We got to spend some time in the basement of the new Coliseum because of a tornado warning.

We continue to pray for Nell Largent as she is still in the hospital.  She loves visitors so if you are in the area, go visit her in Room 220.  Bill Simmons’ funeral will be in our building on Saturday, March 21st at 1:30 p.m.  Our ladies will be providing a meal for the family.  Jane Carter may be calling on some to help.

The First Baptist Church will be hosting Holy Week services beginning March 30th.  Each day, a different church in town will be hosting a meal at noon and then their preacher will give a devotional.  The Methodist are down for Friday.  We will do Mama Josie’s enchiladas and the fixins again, so invite your friends to a great meal and a short message from your preacher.

If you are reading this today (Thursday), Men’s Club is tonight at the Christian Church at 6.  Gerk has Cary Gore lined up to sing and the Christian Church men always have a good meal.  Bring a friend.

I have been studying the book of Esther this week and in that study I find that God cares for us in ways we don’t even know sometimes.  God has big plans for us and we don’t even know it sometimes.  We all have obstacles that get in our way, but God provides for us.  That big word is “providence.”  He uses us ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

I encourage everyone to be in a worship service on Sunday.  A special invite to be in ours.  Breakfast at 9, Sunday School at 9:30, and worship at 10:30 p.m.  God loves you and so do I.
