Hodgepodge February 19, 2026

By Pastor Everett Hodges

It has been a great week.  We got some moisture last weekend for our crops and livestock, and then it has felt like spring every day this week.  It has been a great week in the church.  Last Thursday, we had our Valentine Banquet and it was well-attended, including by some from outside our church.  Many voiced their compliments.

This week my focus for Sunday’s sermon is “faith without works is dead.”  I hope you will be here Sunday to hear what I have worked up, but I think of all the service that is going on in our church body.  The church building is a busy place many days with people stopping by to do one project or the other.  In addition, several of our members are serving at the Jeffco Helping Hands food pantry.  Last Friday was a crazy day there.  Our members are bringing food items to go to that pantry.  Another way of service.  This week, Dirk and Leliz came and cleaned our nasty bbq grill.  Sharon came and cleaned out the refrigerator.

I am so proud of the women in our church.  Monica leads their Bible study each week.  Those women that attend love the study and the fellowship associated with it.  They appreciate Nell opening her home to them.  And they even show up without food.  That is hard to believe.  In addition, our women have a prayer chain where one gets the message of a prayer need via text and they all respond.  We believe in the power of prayer and I salute our “Prayer Warriors.”  If you have a prayer request, let one of us know and the word will get around, I promise!

As I write this, tonight (Thursday) will be the first night of the renewal of the Gypsy Group, the name associated with the local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter.  Leliz will lead that.  We as a church fully support those that have refused to let alcohol be their master, but look to God for their guidance.

We had a record attendance for our Ash Wednesday service last night.  It marked the beginning of Lent.  We encourage everyone to use this time to focus on your relationship with Jesus and try to become closer to Him.  Any time there is the opportunity to come together with my brothers and sisters in Christ I am encouraged.  This is a big part of the Lenten experience.

It’s playoff time. Our Waurika Eagles play tonight at Navajo.  Good luck to Charly and the rest of the Lady Eagles and Eagles.  My grandson plays at North Rock Creek (sorry to brag) and they are 20-1 and hope to have a deep playoff run. He is fun to watch.  He is about 6’6” and shoots like his grandpa used to.  Grandkids are fun to follow, aren’t they?

See you Sunday.  Come for breakfast at 9, Sunday School is at 9:30, and Worship at 10:30.  All are invited.  We love when we have visitors.
