Hope your week is going well. It has been a busy week for us. By next Monday, Ann and I will have gone to 8 basketball games of grandkids, and 2 dance practices and recitals. That’s OK. Glad we can do it.
Our church had a glorious day last Sunday. We had 88 in worship and then celebrated by burning our note where we had borrowed money to buy our building from the UMC Conference. Then we had a wonderful meal, with the meat smoked by the Keeters and sides from several others. We had several guests from our community, so we served over 100 people.
On February 12th, is our Men’s Club Valentine banquet. We have special entertainment for that planned. Then on Sunday, the 15th, Dale and Janell Rochell will be ministering to us with song and spoken word at our regular Worship time of 10:30. On Wednesday night the 18th, we will be have an Ash Wednesday service at 6:00 p.m. We invite all to join us in the beginning of Lent.
Don’t forget-each Friday at noon I will plan to have a short devotional. We will be discussing one of the Proverbs each week. Then Sunday we will continue our study in the Book of James. This Sunday’s lesson is titled “Where the Rubber Meets the Road”. James is a very practical book on how to be more like Jesus. I am trying to focus my life more on doing what Jesus would do and I pray you will do the same.
We had a very productive Ministerial Alliance meeting this past Tuesday. After a good meal (baked potatoes and leftover brisket-ha), we discussed Holy Week, which is March 30 through April 3rd. The daily luncheons will be at the First Baptist Church Life Center. The Methodist day to host will be Friday, April 3rd and I will be speaking that day.
I am very passionate about 2 missions that are happening in our community. One is the Senior Citizens Center and the other is the Jeffco Helping Hands food pantry. We as a church bought some tires for the carts at the food pantry recently. This week, I ordered 2 new skillets for the Senior Citizens. We want our presence to be known in this town and these are 2 very worthy places that are helping our elderly and our hungry.
A revival of the local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter will begin February 19th at 7 p.m. We want to be very supportive in the cause of people’s sobriety. This meeting will be held in our chapel. In addition, a meeting of Al-Anon, which is a group designed for family members and friends of alcoholics, is meeting on Monday nights at 5 p.m. at Nell Largent’s house.
As you can tell, it is a busy month. I love it. It gives us the opportunity to serve our community. Let’s keep telling our community that God loves them and so do we.
Everett
